OLADE and Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet Sign Agreement to Support Sustainable Energy Transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean

NEW YORK | October 5, 2022 – Aligned in a shared vision, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) signed a memorandum of understanding that provides a framework for collaboration. The two organizations will jointly develop activities to support just energy transitions and the eradication of energy poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean.

OLADE and GEAPP have agreed to coordinate activities on issues including the decarbonization of the sector and the diversification of the energy matrix through decentralized renewable technologies. The primary focus will be on solar and wind power, regional integration, infrastructure modernization and efforts to reduce technical and non-technical losses, as well as last mile electrification – with an emphasis on contributing to the acceleration of sustainable, equitable and universal energy transitions in the region.

This collaboration will include the dissemination of knowledge products such as reports, trainings and seminars; and strengthen the capacities related to the implementation and execution of projects for regional governments. Additionally, it will facilitate dialogues on policies, business and finance linked to regional energy sectors.

The agreement states that the entities share an interest in taking urgent and transformative actions to combat climate change by accelerating the transition to clean energy.

The Memorandum was signed by the Executive Secretary of OLADE, Alfonso Blanco, and the Director of GEAPP for Latin America and the Caribbean, Isabel Beltrán.

GEAPP is alliance of local entrepreneurs, governments, and technology, policy, and financing partners with a common mission to support developing countries’ shift to a clean energy, pro-growth model that ensures universal energy access and unlocks a new era of inclusive economic growth, while enabling the global community to meet critical climate goals during the next decade. This platform was launched at the 2021 United Nations Climate Summit COP26 by The Rockefeller Foundation, together with the IKEA Foundation, the Bezos Earth Fund and other partners.
